Chapter 10

The Cat Finds an Old Friend

After the fall from the bubble the cat was annoyed that his companions had so clumsily fallen on him. He walked over to that stone wall that that ran along Joseph’s garden separating it from the busy central part of Heaven. The wall was cut from rose rock and roses of all colors bloomed on top of each segment.

He jumped on the wall to look around. Off a little way was a patch of rainbows growing on trees. The rainbows arched out of the tall busy trees and glowed with brightness. Standing below one of them was a handsome man with a shovel and a watering can. The man held a little sapling while the shovel busily dug a hole and the watering can impatiently pace up and down asking the man, “Now, are you ready?” The man signaled the can to be still and started to plant the sapling.

The cat immediately felt happy because he recognized the man. It had been a long time but he knew the man was Mary’s husband Joseph. For years the cat had wandered looking for his old family and finally he had found Joseph. He did not see Mary but he knew she couldn’t be far away.

He bounced off the wall and ran toward where the rainbows were growing. He got there just as Joseph finished planting the little tree and said to the watering can, “Now.” The can jumped with glee and poured water on the tree. Of course, it was living water that made noises as it fell onto the sapling.

Almost instantly the little tree stared to grow. It bushed out and little buds of color appeared that soon burst forth into rainbows. “Soon,” Joseph said, “we’ll have to harvest the color to send out to the universe. But it will take another decade or so for this grove to reach its full brightness.”

He turned from the plant and saw the cat standing by him. A big smile appeared on his face and he reached down and picked up the cat. “Is it you, after all this time? Is it you, Little Jo?”

          Mits me,” said the cat.
