Good St. Dominic's Cat Chapter Sixteen Little Jesus Makes a Big Promise
With that the memory ended and Joseph, the cat, Dominic, Francis and all their friends were back beneath the rainbows in Heaven.           God the Father, sitting at the throne at the very top of Heaven, smiled and said, “St. Francis, St. Dominic, please bring your little friend forward.”           Dominic took the cat out of his habit. Then the three of them stepped forward. All the eyes of Heaven stared at them. The cat kept trying to hide between the two saints, but Dominic held him out and set him on the bottom step of the throne of God.           A great murmur arose. Very few of the inhabitants of Heaven knew of the cat’s presence. They were very surprised.           The Archangel Michael spoke again, “You are the Father. You had to allow the cat entry into Heaven. You never do anything without great reason, and so the archangels want to know what this means.”           “You are right, Michael. I’ve known of the cat’s presence in Heaven and I have allowed it. However, I am not responsible for the cat being here. The cat is here because of a promise that Jesus made many years ago.”           The Father lifted his hand and above him appeared a small, flat, clear rectangle. It began to grow until it seemed to cover the whole of the vast assembly. Colors began to move across the rectangle, gradually becoming forms. The forms became distinct and a picture was revealed. It was Joseph’s house in Nazareth.           In the picture, Mary was cooking when a young boy came into the kitchen. He was crying and everyone in Heaven knew he was Jesus.           Mary came to the boy and knelt beside him. “What is wrong, Jesus? Why are you crying? Are you hurt?”           The boy kept crying. The cat came into the kitchen as upset as the little boy. Howling, he ran to Mary and Jesus.           “I have two upset children,” said Mary. “Jesus, tell me what is wrong.”           The boy babbled out that the neighborhood kids had been picking on the cat. He had tried to stop them but they were too big. Jesus said, “I tried to explain to them that they were hurting Little Joe, but they wouldn’t listen to me.” One of them had taken the cat and Jesus thought the cat was gone forever, but the cat must have escaped.           “Mother, I don’t have any friends,” Jesus said.           “You will, “Mary answered. “Anyway, this cat is your good friend and you are his.”           Jesus smiled and shook his head in agreement. “He is my best friend and he will always live where I live.” He picked up the cat and hugged it. The cat stopped howling and said, “My Mesus.”
