Chapter Seventeen

Reunited In Heaven

The rectangle which all Heaven was watching became white. Its shape was changing into the form of a great white bird. No one was surprised when the bird’s eyes flashed blue and gold and green. It was the Holy Spirit. Everyone in Heaven was used to the Spirit’s surprises.

Gradually the white bird became smaller and it flew around the Assembly Room until it touched the cat’s head with its beak. With a flash of many colors, the cat was lifted up to the throne at the top of Heaven and set in the Father’s lap.

Dominic and Francis, still standing at the bottom of the stairs, smiled to each other. The Holy Spirit had just put this special mark on the cat. The cat glowed with the Spirit’s light. Francis said to Dominic, “I guess that settles the question of an earth animal in Heaven.”

As if Michael had heard the saints, the archangel spoke, “Father and Spirit, everything that the Trinity does has great importance and meaning. Why now? Why at this moment does the cat enter Heaven?”

The Father smiled and stood up, lifting the cat in his arms. The Spirit became an explosion of purple behind them.

“Why now, Michael? Because now the story of Jesus’ boyhood can be told. From Jesus’ birth until he was 12, this cat was his pet. Stored in this cat’s memory are many of the incidents that so far Heaven has not been able to see. The last time the Assembly bell rang before Jesus’ birth, I told Heaven it would have to wait to know the full story. Jesus’ childhood would not be watched by Heaven a it happened. It would be kept secret until the right time. Now is the time. I promised one day that the stories would be told. Here is the storyteller.”

All of Heaven’s inhabitants began to murmur. Here was one of the Father’s many imaginative creations, a cat that would tell Heaven the stories of Jesus’ youth. Everyone in Heaven had waited for these stories.

Without warning the Holy Spirit took on the form of a cat and ran down the steps leading to the throne. When this holy cat reached the last step a great orange circle opened up revealing steps going straight down to Earth. This small furry Holy Spirit ran down and out of sight. Just when everyone thought the Holy Spirit was gone, the holy cat ran back up the stairs with two people following him. They were Jesus and Mary.

Jesus spoke first, “Why was the bell rung? What calls us back from our work on Earth?”

Before any answer came, Mary said, “Look Jesus.”

She was pointing to the throne where the cat was sitting in the Father’s lap. The cat was excited. He jumped out of the Father’s arms and ran to Jesus and Mary.

“Little Joe, is it really you?” Jesus asked, as he picked up the cat and kissed it.

          “Mit’s me” said the cat.
