Good St. Dominic's Cat
by Ed Noonan Illustrated by Leslie Cobb
CHAPTER FOUR "Here we go," said St. Francis as the second wave of joy swept over them."I hope the cat will show us more of his story," said Dominic as he felt his toes and his fingers start to tingle once more with joy. "My mm-leasure," said the cat as his eyes started to whirl like round crystal rainbows. Anything can happen when you are caught by joy. Once again the cat's memory overtook the three of them and once again the three of them watched the story of the Angel Gabriel visiting Mary. They heard the crash of the plate inside Mary's house and they felt the body of the cat leap to an open window and look into the house. Through the cat's eyes they saw the angel speaking to Mary.
At this point the picture was interrupted by images of a window ledge, the sky, a wall, and a bunch of leaves. Those were all the things the cat had seen as he fell out the window, surprised by the angel's exploding flowers. The cat mewed and grumbled a bit as he tried to get out of the bush he'd fallen into. He scrambled to get back to the window. He didn't want to miss anything. When he got back, the angel was still dressed like a young man, the flowers wrapped like a noble robe on his shoulders. His eyes were ablaze. His hands and feet glowed. A blue light filled the room as his pure voice gently said, "Hello, Mary." Once again surprised, the cat fell out the window. Instead of landing in the bush, however, he found himself back in St. Francis' cave. The second memory had ended. "Hold on, kitty," said St. Francis. "The third wave always sneaks up fast, the best and the last." "Mewwoop," said the cat as once again rainbows went round in his eyes.
